Fresh details have emerged on the circumstances that led to the murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani ahead of the trial that will resume next week.
The evidence against the two people accused of the murder, Joseph 'Jowie' Irungu and Jacque Maribe has emerged in affidavits filed by investigators and witnesses.
A statement by Brian Kasaine, Maribe's neighbor who is a witness against the two suspects, mentions President Uhuru Kenyatta's cousin John Muhoho, in the murder investigations.
Brian Kasaine told investigators in his submission that on the night of the murder, Joseph Irungu, popularly known as Jowie, called him and asked whether he had paraffin or anything inflammable in his house.
He said the question surprised him wondering why would one ask for inflammable substances at such a late hour. I response, he told him he did not have any of the items he had requested for.
"My wife who was with me in bed also awakened by this call and overheard our conversation.”
Kasaine added that when he met Jowie the next day he asked him why he needed paraffin that night.
The witness claimed, in response, Jowie told him he wanted to burn some stuff in the compound before stating he was with "Muhoho who stabbed someone that same night."
"He replied, 'tulikuwa job fulani na Mo-Muhoho na nikama alidunga mtu kisu' (I was with Mo-Muhoho yesterday for an assignment and he stabbed somebody," Kasaine's statement read in part.
Kasaine names John Muhoho again clarifying that this was the "Mo" that Jowie had said may have stabbed someone.
"When Joseph Kuria told me as follows, 'tulikuwa job Fulani na Mo-Muhoho na nikama alidunga mtu kisu' - he was referring to John Muhoho who is a close friend of his," Kasaine said.
John is a son to former minister George Muhoho, the younger brother to Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
Monica Nyawira was found dead at her apartment in Nairobi.
She had a deep cut on her throat, her mouth was covered with tape and both her hands were tied and water left to run on the bath tub.
